Question
Hello Brad,

Is the "Dos Pesos" coin in any condition worth more as melted gold, than as a coin?

Thanks,

Paul James

Answer
Hi Paul, This Mexican 2 Pesos contains .0482 of an ounce of gold. Collector value depends on the date, amount of wear and amount of collector demand and is almost always higher than just the gold value. The 1945 is the most common date and may still be worth about 10%+ over gold value if uncirculated (no wear). Most pawn shops, etc will give you much LESS than the gold value.
Current gold and silver values: http://www.kitco.com/market/ .
You might try Ebay.com for similar pieces for comparison.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.
