Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Misprinted nickel

Question
I have a nickel which is about 25 years old.  Unfortunately the date is not stamped on it.  It was only stamped on about 1/3 of coin on both sides.  Therefore, only about half of the head and the backside is on it.  What is its approximate value?  The coin is in great condition other than the misprint.

Answer
Hi Cindy,
Sounds like a nice off-center coin. This is not a rare mint error, but it is very collectible. One unfortunate thing is that there is no date. These are usually more valuable if there is a specific date on it.
For a dateless one in excellent shape, I would expect $20 to $25 from a reputable auctioneer. A good retail coin shop would be asking up to double that however.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
