Question

Coin
I'm not sure which coin this is; I know nothing about it from its era or origin, any help would be lovely. I've attached an image of one side of the coin. Thank you

Answer
Hi Tiaan,
What you have is a modern copy of an ancient Hebrew sheckel. The real thing is very rare, would be made of silver, and is extremely valuable.
This piece most likely was made somewhere from the 1950's to 1980's, and is made of cast base metal with a gold colored finish.
This is something that would be considered a novelty piece. As such it's value is just a dollar or two.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
