Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Schukenfest Medal

Question
While going through some of my grandfathers belongings we discovered a larger Medal in its original case. I've been lead to believe this is something to do with a shooting competition. On the front of the coin there are two men with rifles shaking hands over a Swiss symbol and the dates 1824 and 1924 and Aarau. The inscribing "Jul Schwyzer Inv" and "Hans Frei Scul"  also appear. The back reads Jahr = Hvndertfeier Des Schweiz Schvtzen Vereins. Is there any information you could give me regarding the coin and its possible value

Answer
Hi Amanda,
This piece commemorates the 100th anniveersary of the founding of the Arau marksman Society in 1924. However, this item is a tin plate measuring 35cm in diameter. The names are Jules Schwyzer and Hans Frei, the designers and sculptors for the original molds.
The only one of these I had seen for sale was at a Swiss auction last summer. It only sold for the equivalent of about $20, but the real value may be higher.
Being that it is not a coin or medal, this is somehting you may want to follow-up on with an expert in commemorative plates.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
