Coin and Paper Money Collecting/"black" dime

Question
hi joe.  I have a 1999 dime.  It is almost black.  But I can tell (i think) that it isnt from dirt, etc... It looks as though it was done in a metal different then what it should have been.  Have you ever heard of this.  thanks

Answer
Hi Donna,
Off-metal strikes do occur.  Without seeing or testing the coin, I can not imagine what it is.
The first step would be to weigh it to see if the weight matches what a regular dime would be.
It is possible that the coin was exposed to some chemical that simply changed it's appearance.

Only inspection would give the answers.
