Question
I have a 1876 German Mark with Ludwig II Koenig V. Bayern on front with a D under his bust and on back it says Deutsches Reich 1876 Funf Mark. In excellent condition. Also around the edge of the coin it has the markings UNS GOTT MIT. What type of value does it have Thanks for your answer

Answer
Hi William,
You have a .900 silver 5 mark from the German state of Bavaria. This is the earliest type for the 5 mark denomination and does have some good value.
The auction prices start in the $30-$50 range for a decent, but well circulated coin. For one in excellent shape with only minimal signs of wear on the high points, the value is $200-$300.
If you would like to post a follow-up question with a clear picture of the coin, I can give you a more exact value. If by any chance your coin has no wear at all and some shiny luster, you've got something worth between $600-$900.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
