Question
hi my uncle has a 1944 united states made filipinas twenty cent silver coin he was wondering how much it is worth thank you for your help

Answer
Hi Athena,
This is one of the last and most common years that this coin was made. In mint condition with full shiny luster it's worth $5. In circulated condition they usually sell for just a couple of dollars. Many times they are sold in bulk at silver bullion value.
Now, there is also a higher value variety. Just to the left of the date is a small letter D. If you look at it under a magnifying loop with at least 10x magnification, this variety will look like small pieces of a letter S coming out from beneath the D.
This kind is worth anywhere from $10 to over $100 depending on condition.
Let me know if you have any follow-up questions.
Thanks! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
