Question

ENCASED 1903 INDIAN CE
I have an encased (round) 1903 left-facing Indian Head in full headdress lucky penny 'pocket piece' .... I can also read 'Pan American Exposi, Buffalo, NY' printed on the back.  Does it currently have any value?  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Linda,
Encased coins are generally a popular item with collectors, especially from an important even such as this. I just saw a slightly cleaner looking one just like this, only with a 1901 penny, that sold on eBay for just over $15 including shipping.
Your piece would also be in that range, I would estimate $10 to $15.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
