Question
Hello, Could you please help me; I have a gold coin which I would like to sell, however I do not know anything about it.  Looking at the coin there is a large crest with two heads coming out of the top and wings out of the sides,it reads:LOD.ILL.REX A.A.1915 HVNGAR.BOHEM.GAL (there is NOT the number 4 in brackets under the crest), on the bust side it reads:FRANC.10S.I.D.G.AVSTRIAE IMPERATOR, the coin is 20mm across. I welcome any information you could help me with. Thanking you in advance for your assistance.

Answer
Hi Susie,
You have an Austrian trade "ducat" made of 22 karat gold and containing .1106 ounces of pure gold weight.
The 1915 is actually a re-strike year, made well after 1915. As such, it is the most common date. Typically these sell as gold bullion at around $130 for the coin. In perfect mint condition with bright luster it's worth just a little more, around $150.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
