Question

Money Error Image
Hi Brad,
I have a 20 dollar bill with a major misalignment error (compared on coinsite.com).  I have heard that these could be worth money if taken to the proper collectors.  Can you tell me the best way to go about this process?
-U.S. 20 dollar bill
-1985
-Unsure of condition..has crease in center so definitely not perfect

If you could give me any information on this, I'd greatly appreciate it!  Thanks :)
~Katie

Answer
Hi Katie, Error value depends on date, type and extent of the error as well as amount of folds or wear and collector demand. This may be worth about $200 or more.
You might try the following Paper Money Errors links:
http://coinsite.com/html/USCurrencyErrors.asp
http://www.usmintquarters.com/currencyerrors.htm
You may also find similar pieces on Ebay.com for comparison.
You might take it by a local coin shop for a first hand opinion: http://find.mapmuse.com/interest/coin_dealers .
