Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Value of a misprinted states quarter

Question

Back
I pulled a 1999 Connecticut quarter from a roll of brand new quarters.  It had been miss-stamped with a section of slug showing around one side.  I have saved the coin in a protective case and am considering placing it on E-Bay.  What is the value, and is E-Bay the proper selling place?

Answer
Karl,

You have what I'd call an about 10% off-center strike error.

Errors on state quarter coins have been very popular, however most off-center error collectors are looking for stuff that is more off-center than what you have -- around 50% off-center is the most desirable.

eBay is a good place to sell this -- you should be able to get $10 to $20 or more for it there.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
