Question

coin
I have a coin that is the size of a silver dollar. On one side it has on top a ribbon that says 200th anniversary, circling the bottom it says the United States Constitution. The picture on this side is of Governor Morris and James Madison with what i think is a clock tower. The other side has at the top a half sun with a face, under the sun says We The People. The bottom says September 17,1787 the picture is of what looks like about 13-16 states. I would like to know if you know what it is, what it is made of, how many was made, why can't i find anything about it. Thank You Lori

Answer
Lori,

The reason you are having trouble finding info about this is because technically it is not a coin, but rather a medal.  Something privately minted -- not government made.

Collector interest in this type of modern, privately minted item is very low -- very difficult to get anything for it about any precious metal it may contain -- which being copper based means it has no precious metal.

I would estimate value at about a dollar or two, if you can find an interested buyer.

I hope this helps.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
