Coin and Paper Money Collecting/drachmas coin

Question
Hi. I'm wanting to know more about the 1968 drachmas coin. Are they worth anything or worth collecting?

Answer
Hi Gleniece,
The different 1968 denominations do have book values that range in the $5-$10 range and higher for some. However, it is extremely difficult to sell the coins for anywhere near the catalog values. They are simply too new and too common at this point in time. With several million of each coin made, and sometimes over 10 million, just about anyone who wants one already has one.
However, really nice mint condition coins are still worth keeping, as they will go up in value steadily over time. Also, the 1968 sealed mint set is a popular item with Greek coin collectors.
Any more questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Thank you! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
