Question

1975 Roosevelt Dime
Is this a mint error or post-mint damage? This coin is also about 0.1 lighter than the other 1975 dimes.

Do you know of any error coin experts in the NY/NJ area?

Answer
Grace,

This would be considered post-mint damage.  Somebody manually ground it down -- probably for use in a magician's coin.  It has no collector value.

I don't know any NY/NJ area error coin dealers personally, and the closest one the ANA's website lists is Glen Burger Rare Coins & Currency (Nottingham, MD) -- glenburger@comcast.net

There is also a major error coin dealer out of California that you might consider contacting -- his website is at http://www.mikebyers.com

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
