Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Aluminum Quarter

Question
My son found a quarter with a date of 1950, and he said it is made of aluminum.  He has a person who wants to buy it from him and he says that there are aluminum quarters worth $2.00 and some worth $13.00.  The gentleman told him his was worth $2.00.  Can you tell me if there is such a coin and is it worth anything.  My father was a coin dealer when I was growing up and I never heard him say anything about an aluminum quarter.
Thank you.

Answer
Hi Dorothy,
dimes, quarters and half dollars made prior to 1965 are 90% silver, not aluminum.
They are worth 12 times the face value; that is $1.20 for a dime, $3 for a quarter and $6 for a half.
Don't sell it for less than $3
