Question

Coins Front & Back
Dear Mr. Swain,

I recently was given a necklace that had belonged to my great aunt who passed away many years ago. There are six coins on the necklace. Rings were placed around the coins to prevent damage.

The coins are: 1945 Mexican Coin - Dos y medios pesos, 1912 coin from Nederlands, 10G, 2 coins with JFK image and words "Political Leaders of the World" one is about the size of a nickel, the other is very small, smaller than a dime. 1898 Liberty 10 dollar coin, 1915 indian head five dollar coin.

The coins were personally collected by great uncle during his time as a Merchant Marine on many trips around the world. Any idea regarding the rarity or value of any of these coins?

Thanks,
Becky

Answer
Hi Becky, If a coin has been damaged by becoming part of the jewelry or cannot be separated from the jewelry without damage then its value lies in the piece of jewelry and not as a coin.
You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info. In that way you can add up the gold and silver value of the coins for their total weight.
