Question
Hi, I'm having trouble identifying a coin. It says 10 Napa. I tried looking it up but all I get is info on wine. On the back are two eagles with wings spread out and heads going in opposite directions with a small crown above. The year is 1884. Any help would be great. Thank you.

Answer

Hi Kat,
You have a copper-nickel alloy 10 para from Serbia. This is a fairly common coin with over 6 million made. I cannot give you an exact value since I do not know the condition of your coin. However, a practical value range at auction is from $1 or so for a well used coin to $25 or more for one in mint condition with original luster remaining. Mint condition coin certified by a grading company would have a large premium of course.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
