Question

1873 Alfonso xii deiz
I wanted to know if this year of the coin is rare and what if any is the value due to it's condition.

Answer
Hi Melissa,
This Spanish 10 centimos coin would actually be an 1878. The coin itself is not rare, with nearly 70 million of them made. They are fairly rare in mint condition with no signs of wear at all and red luster. For a circulated example such as the one in the attached picture a practical value would below $5.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
