Question

1923 Mercury- No Mint
I have never seen a coin like this, could you please tell me what it is and its value if there is any?

- It has a double 1
- It has a double D on the word "God"
- It has two large marks above the date

Answer
Jackson,

The doubled 1 & D are caused by the use of worn out dies when the coin was minted -- known as strike doubling, it has no added value.

I can't tell from the picture, but if the two marks above the date go into the surface of the coin (as opposed to being raised up) then it's just something caused from contact after the coin left the mint -- no collector value.

If they are raised marks, then you got me -- I don't know what could have caused them.
