Question
Hi

I have a 2.5 G coin in mint condition. Could you please tell me anything about it and it's value if any.
Many thanks
Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
This is a 2 1/2 gulden coin from the Netherlands, which was their version of the silver dollar. It is made of .720 purity silver and a genuine mint condition coin should weigh exactly 25 grams.
The coins from this year are fairly common with over 11 million made, but they are hard to find in mint condition. Such a coin is worth $30 to $50 on the US auction market and $50+ on the European market.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
