Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1951 US quarter

Question
Hi  I found a 1951 quarter in my dad's things that has a "D" mint mark that has no hole in the center of the D, it is just all solid raised metal.  Is that a known defect or does that happen as a wear mark of some sort?  Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.  Elizabeth Smith, Overland Park, Kansas

Answer
HI Elizabeth,
That happens occasionally when the dies wear down.  It is not a major error.  In used condition, your coin is worth $3.50
