Question
I have read of one other who has found a 1986 D penny with what clearly looks like a double die obverse but only on the year. The 9, 8 and 6 are offset and doubled. On Allexperts.com A person by the screen name of "PAPAJACK". My question is now that there are 2 known errors of the same kind, what should i do? Does my penny hold a greater value now? Thank you, Victor J.Salas

Answer
Victor,

If it truly was a doubled die error, there would be thousands of them known.  I have to believe it is a striking error -- not a die error.

Check out the following website article that explains the types of doubling :

If you still believe you have a doubled die, you should contact the website owner -- Ken Potter -- at KPotter256@aol.com

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
