Question
Hi I have a Ludwig III Grosherzog Von Hessen Funf Mark 1876 With a H underneath the head it is in very good condition could you please give me some kind of valuation of the coin i can provide pictures if you need any information you can give me would be great
Kind Regards John

Answer
Hi John,
This is a 5 mark coin from the German state of Hesse-Darmstadt. This is one of the scarcer types. Condition makes a dramatic difference in the price of this coin. I have recently sold a couple for around $100 to $125 that were average examples. High grade examples go up into the thousands of dollars.
This is one where I would really need to see a clear picture, preferably of the side with the monarch's portrait, to be able to give you an accurate answer.
Thanks! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
