Question
I was at an auction and a set of foreign coins was up.  I bought the whole set for $5. Anyway, i am now trying to figure out what I have. One is a 10 cent coin from singapore.  I can't figure out the date.   How can I tell the year?

Answer
Hi Robin,
Was the attribution that you got written on a holder or something like that? This is sometimes not correct, depending on who put it there. Any Singapore 10 cent piece, even the early Straits Settlements pieces under British administration, would have a "normal" date on it. Your coin is something else.
If you can attach a clear picture to a follow-up question, I can most likely tell you what it is. Thanks! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
