Question
Hi Dmitry
We inherited some coins from my father.
One coin is dated 1744. On the side that it is dated it has the words "Tria Limina Pandit," in the center it has a 4 Column building, on the flip side in the middle it has the three profiles of men, they look like Cardinals or Popes.
Just wondering if this coin is worth anything?
Thanks for you help.

Answer
Hi Siobhan,
This is a French jetton or medallion (non-monetary) commemorating the Royal Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts in Rouen. Cornielle and Fontenelle are important figures whio hail from Rouen and Poussin, the famous painter, is associated with the institution as well.
In very good shape without damage or significant wear it's worth $50 to $75 retail.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
