Question
Morning, I have recently come into the possession of a "1900 Deutsches Reich Funf Mark" in mint coin - still has a blue tinge film. On the other side it has "Wilhelm 2 Deutscher Kaiser Konig V", and is Prussian. The rim is stamped "Mit Ons Gott". I would appreciate any info and potential value. Many thenks, John

Answer
Hi John,
These Prussian 5 marks are not particularly rare and there were over 1 million coins made in 1900, but a nicely toned mint condition coin is quite a rarity.
Without seeing a clear picture of it I can only give you a value range from $300 to $500+ depending on just how sharp the details are and the overall eye appeal. If there is any sign of wear at all, however, the price would decrease dramatically.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
