Question

Coin front and back
I have several old coins that I am trying to identify.  I would like to know anything about them...country of origin, what the denomination of the coin is, what the value may be and where I could look to sell this coin.  Thank you!!!

Answer
Hi Chris,
This is a Japanese 100 mon (also called a Tempo Tsuho). These were made between 1835 and 1870. They typically sell in the $15 to $25 range for a typical example such as yours. Your best bet for selling this coin is also eBay.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
