Question

Mexican 1841 silver 8
Hi,this is Kevin responding to your feedback about the possible overstrike and value of the Mexican 8 reales 1841 GO-PJ silver coin.I am sending a couple of pictures for you to look at.The possible overstrikes are in the bottom of the cap between the two sides and also in the rays above the cap a little to the right and also farther to the rightside in the rays.Hopefully the pics' i send will do justice and allow you to see what i see?..thank you and regards Kevin

Answer
Hi again Kevin,
This site unfortunately only lets you attach one picture per question. Only the side with the eagle was attached and I do not see any signs of the over-strike here.
The surface looks a little unusual, have you weighed the coin? It should be right around 27 grams.
Thanks!

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
