Question

turkish coins
I have 2 coins, one 5 Para and the other 20 para, from Turkey dated 1327, but I have no idea where to look for the Regnal year. My source books (Krause World Coin guides)don't tell where to look or what to look for. Can you help me? Please see the attached scans.

Answer

Hi Greg,
The regnal date is on the other side, right below the Ottoman toughra. For example, the one in the picture I attached is a year 4. Please note that for similar looking Egyptian coins, the denomination will be in this spot and the regnal date will be on the opposite side, at the top above the ascension year.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
