Answer

Hi Manny,
These are medallic issue 40 franc coins, which are .900 pure gold (22 karat). These were amde only in 1964 to commemorate the ascension of the new king and queen to the royal throne.
In excellent condition, like the one in the picture I attached, they are worth in the range of $600 each. Most of the value is just the gold weight. The collectible value in excellent condition is 15% or so above the gold bullion value. If your coins look like they are new, then they are most likely in mint condition and may even bring a little more than $600 each at auction.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
