Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Two headed quarter

Question
I have a two headed 1964 on both sides quarter. How do I tell if it is real?

Answer
1) ring test -- drop it and aother silver quarter on a hard surface.  The regular quarter will ring -- the two-headed one will clunk.

2) weigh it -- a real 1964 quarter will weigh exactly 6.25 grams.

3) examine it under magnification -- using a strong magnifier, examine the area just inside the raised rim on both sides of the coin.  On one side you will find a tiny seam where the two coins used to make this coin are joined together.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
