QUESTION: this is a photo of my coin

ANSWER: Hi again Rogerio,
This token looks very unusual compared to other tokens from this age and area. I feel that it may be from much later than the 1817 date on it. Such pieces would be of a very crude quality, but this one appears like it is actually high quality that is trying to look crude.
I would personally be suspicious of such an item.
Thanks again! =)

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Hi Dmitri. I have no reasons to suspect of the coins. They belonged to an old collection never handed by anyone before me. I have two coins alike as I informed you in my first message. The other one is in an inferior grade. If you have interest I can take more photos, verse and obverse, of both coins to send to you. I am not a dealer but only a collector wishing improve my knowledge in numismatics. Of course I think your opinion is very respectable.
Thanks again an excuse me if insist too much.
Rogerio Duarte

Answer
Hi Rogerio,
I appreciate the follow-up questions. This is a piece that interests me as well, since it is not like anything that I have seen or been able to reference.
If you can send me clear pictures of both sides and also the edge I would really appreciate it. My e-mail is BetweenEarthnSky@yahoo.com
Thanks!

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
