Question
Good evening Mr. Fern:

My mother collected coins.  Unfortunately she past.  She has left me with a few coins.  One of such is a Susan B Anthony Dollar set 1979-P,D,S 1980-P,D,S.  I have to go through a can of more coins :)  that how she kept them.

Do you have any history and value you can share with me.

Thanks very much,

Cathy

Hi Cathy:

Thanks for your question.

I'm sorry to hear of your mother's passing. Almost all of the SBA dollars are only worth face value. The few exceptions would be special Proof coins, and a few varieties. I'll provide you some sites you can check out to establish the difference between proof and production strikes as well as the value of your coins.

You may want to check US coins and currency listings under dollars on eBay from time to time to see if your coins are listed what these type of items may bring.

If you live close to a local shop, they should offer an opinion as to the value at no charge. Always try and get at least two opinions and try and deal with PNG dealers if possible. If you should decide to sell your items to a dealer, remember they will offer about 50% to 60% of the retail value. Here's a link to find one in your area: http://www.pngdealers.com/dealersearch.php You'd likely get more for this coin in a major coin auction, or by selling it to a dealer specializing in errors.

Thank You and Good Luck in your collecting.
