Question
the coin I am trying to find out about is silver, on one side has some type of shield with wings and the date 1775 with the writing Akch Aust Dux Burg Brab Com around the edge and on the other side it has four crowns around some type of cross.  Trying to identify the language has proven to be most difficult.
any ideas what I might have?

Answer

Hi Lola,
I'm not the person you originally posted this question to, but I saw it in our "question pool" and picked it up.
You have a kronenthaler from the Austrian Netherlands, which is present day Belgium. It is indeed a silver coin.
Values depend on condition. A well used coin with a lot of wear will only be worth around $15-$20. However, they go up into the $100's in excellent condition.
Thanks! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
