A follow up question from a few days ago about my belgium silver 1 franc coin. You said the coin appears to have some wear. I've attached a picture of the front of the coin. Do you consider the hair and beard sharp?  If so what is the approximate worth. $50 ??? The local coin dealer said 75 cents melt value. Thank you again Debbie

Answer
Hi again Debbie,
Unfortunately the coin is well worn and also has hairlines from being cleaned by rubbing with a cloth. In this condition it would pretty much be worth silver melt value, however at current silver prices the melt value is a little over $4. You may want to avoid this particular dealer who told you 75 cents.
Thanks again! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
