Question
Obverse
Obverse
I own a medal, I think from Germany, because on the reverse have the inscription Patrona Bavariae, have the image of a crowned woman with a baby on arm. The obverse have inscription In Litore Jsarae Signatus, with the image of a hairy man on a fountain, in the front a shield and in back a bilding like a temple. Date 1960, 35mm and is made of silver. May be is not great value, but is very interesting, can you tell me the value commemoration and rarity? Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Luis,
The medal you have is a novelty version designed after a commemorative German gold ducat, like this one: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gold-German-Patrona-Bavariae-1-DUK-990-F-/300588759522

The value for this medal is that of a novelty piece. I have not seen one made of solid silver. They are usually made of base metal with silver gilding, like this one: http://www.ebay.es/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170680495942

Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
