Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Identifying a coin

Question
Coin
Coin
I am trying to identify this coin.  It has what appears to be the Star of David on one side but the other side is indeterminable.  The coin is similar in size to an old English halfpenny.

Answer

Hi Laurence,
The coin you have is a bronze 4 falus from Morocco. The picture is upside down, but the date looks like 1288. This is a hijri date going by the Islamic calendar and is equal to the year 1871 by our calendar.
They are fairly common coins in this condition and worth no more than $10.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
