Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Info on Haiti coins

Question
Hi. I have some gold and silver proof coin sets from Haiti that I would like some more information on.

The 1976 proof set (commemorating the 1976 Montreal Olympics) has a 500 gourdes gold coin and a 50 gourdes silver coin.

The 1975 set has a 200 gourdes gold coin and a 25 gourdes silver coin.

I'm wanting to sell them and was hoping to be able to advertise them better if I knew more about them. Also, how much do you think they would be worth? I'm having trouble finding examples like mine to go by. Thank you!

Answer
Hi Michelle,
Modern commemoratives like these are pretty much worth gold/silver bullion value at auction. Plus, if you sell them on eBay the fees will cause you to actually get less than the gold and silver is worth.
If you do wish to sell them, the best way is through a good coin shop or local dealer. Such a situation may take a while to sell the coins, but they will sell at a high enough price above bullion value that it's worth it to you even after a small consignment fee to the coin shop or dealer.
There is really no special info needed for these coins, just the stats on them as far as weight and metal content.
The 500 gourdes is 6.5 grams of .900 (22 karat) gold, the 200 gourdes is 2.91 grams of .900 gold. The 50 gourde is 16.75 grams of .925 silver and the 25 gourdes is 8.38 grams of .925 silver.

Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
