German Medals
German Medals
I put two medals at the same time, I don't know if I can do this. But to save time I do it, tell me if incorrect. I have this two medals for some time and I don't found much information. The first one is white metal, 39mm, may be silver; Obverse are two womens one sit, one stand up, Reverse have a leyend; "Fur 25 Jahre erfolgreicher Arbeit. Deutscher wascherei-verband" Can you tell me the theme of the medal, the year and some value.
The second one is From Baden, Bronce, 40mm. Obverse, Firedich Bust; Reverse, a leyend; "Immer Bleibe Dir Lob U. Ehr und Ewiger Nachruhm 1911". Can you tell me an idea of a value?

Answer
Hi again Luis,
The one on the left is a medal of the German Laundry Association, commemorating "25 years of successful work". It's likely made of white metal, but if the medal is heavy it may be pewter. Silver is also possible, but no very common for medals like this. The age is difficult to determine exactly, but it's somewhere in the second quarter of the 1900's, most likely in the 1920's or early 1930's. Value is a guess, since I've not seen any that have sold or were offered for sale. Based on other German medals for small societies, it would be worth in the $20 to $30 range. If the medal is silver it would be worth double that.
The second medal is from the German state of Baden-Durlach and commemorates 40 years of the founding of the German imperial empire (1871). The message on the opposite side translates as "Always may you praise honor and eternal fame". This one is worth in the range of $100 to $125 or slightly more if you have the original presentation box. Without the box it is worth around $50 as an auction estimate and $75 to $100 in a retail situation.
Thanks again for the questions! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
