Hi,

I buy it because is look rare and interesting. Obverse, Bust of Antonio Canovae, Reverse, look like a tumb with the leyend "VTINATES PARENTABANT XIII-KALENDAS MAIAS" 1823 Bronce 48mm. Value?
The second one, is from Germany 1892 Bronce 51mm. Theme? Value?
My collection on medals from the World, my favorite is Germany. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Ramon,
The medal on the left is indeed from Italy, it is a memorial for the death of Venetian artist and sculptor Antonio Canova. The medal was sculpted by Italian medallist Antonio Fabris. Italian medals from these years are harder to find and more valuable than most German medals. This particular one in this condition is worth between $100 and $150.
The second medal I believe is from the German state of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, as the portrait looks like Ernst and Albert. I would need to see or know some of the writing on it to identify it exactly, but most of these are worth between $50 and $100.
Thanks again! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
