Question
i recently got a 1965 P qquarter that has a perfect grove on the inside of the rim about maybe 1 100th inch deep.at first glance it looked done with a tool but on further inspection i noticed the ridges(for lack of a better word)were on the inside of the grove. i have never heard or seen anything like this and hope you could shed some light. thanks

Answer
Hi John,
Without seeing it, it's hard to determine what caused it.  I have seen coins go thru counting machines that end up with a perfect circle inside the rim as you describe, but not with ridges.
That doesn't mean it wasn't caused by a counting machine, just that I haven't seen one like that.

If you can send a good picture, I may be able to help further.
