Coin and Paper Money Collecting/WWI - La Semeuse Walking Liberty

Question
Hello,
I have a coin that my grandfather brought home from serving in WWI. I believe is a 'The Sower (La Semeuse) Walking Liberty Franc. I was told years ago by my grandfather that it is an 'error/proof coin' as the back was not stamped. The designer is Oscar Roty, "ORoty" stamped on the bottom front.

I would like to obtain the value of this coin. We are considering selling it and therefore would like to have an honest evaluation on this coin.

Thank you for your time.
Elyce

Answer
Hi Elyce,
Such one sided coins are patterns or trial strikes, meant for presentation of what the coin would look like prior to confirming the design for general production. This series began in 1898, so such a pattern or trial strike would be from right before that.
I would really need to see clear, close-up pictures of the coin to determine if you have a genuine rarity, a novelty version such as a medal designed after the coin, or a normal coin that has been altered. The difference would be in the design details and their quality.
You can attach one picture per follow-up question on this site, or e-mail me multiple pictures directly at BetweenEarthnSky@yahoo.com
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
