Any information you can give me would be very helpful thank you

ANSWER: Hi Albert,
This would be a Spanish colonial 1 escudo, made of .903 (22 karat) gold.
They were minted at various cities. The mint and assayer marks will determine if it's one of the more common or rare ones. Can you attach a picture of the 1 S side to a follow-up question? That would allow me to give you a complete answer regarding origin, condition, originality and value.
Thanks for the question! =)

QUESTION: Here are scans of the front and back.
 Thank you

Answer
Hi Albert,
Sorry about the delay in answering your question.
This coin has the Madrid mintmark, so it's from mainland Spain. This makes it one of the more common types, but it's still worth more than gold value.
In the condition shown I would expect in the $250 range at auction. Not bad for a circulated coin with less than 1/10th of an ounce of pure gold content.
Thanks again for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
