Question
QUESTION: i have 2 medals in a black and gold box with the longines symphonette great american triumphs on it coins are 24k. gold plated
one of Patrick henry the other of john Paul Jones  and i don't find them on the net at all gold plated are this a 1 of a kind ?

ANSWER: David,

While I haven't seen any of the gold plated ones, there are plenty of silver and pewter ones out there, so I doubt they are unique.

I would have to say that unless their edge is marked Sterling, then the value of those medals will not be much -- perhaps about $10.00 each.  If marked Sterling, then they will be worth about $45 each.

I hope this helps,

Dan

QUESTION: the edge is marked sterling silver & 24k plated stamped in the coin so dose
the gold inprove the value ? and think you for the respons

Answer
David,

The actual melt value of the gold in the gold plating for each medal is only a few cents.  You may get an extra dollar or two for added eye appeal (over non-gold-plated Sterling medals), but the gold plating adds very little metal value.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
