Question
1922 Peace Dollar
1922 Peace Dollar
Recently, I found two 1922 peace dollars in my mother's estate. One is very different from what I consider the normal one. The measurement differences are as follows.

Odd         Normal
1.540"      1.501"   Diameter
.096"        .098"   Thick in the middle
.147"        .110"   Thick on the edges

I have attached pictures comparing the two, showing many more differences. I have found one other picture of such a coin and the expert thought it was a spooned coin, but I don't believe that to be the case. The diameter would have to gotten smaller not larger. What can you tell me about this coin?

Thank You for being available for coin collector amateurs

Answer
Hi Rod,
It appears to me to be in some sort of a bezel.  The bezel (frame) around the coin is most likely sterling silver and was adhered years ago.  That is why it appears to be part of the coin.

I get in a lot of silver dollars that were on keychains or money clips and that is exactly what they look like.  Also, bear in mind that the coin is larger, so the bezel idea makes total sense.
