Question
1992 D Error Penny
1992 D Error Penny
Dear Sir,Friend...

After Weighing the 1992 Penny with a Digital Scale = 1.9 Grams.
Its not a Plastic or Fiberglass Penny,as I though.I  thought that becuase of its dead sounds when I droped it (Test). But,it still has a very nice Error on  the Back...What your Thoughts on this subject? Do you think it commands a Premium?
The Cross like cut was on it when I found it...I also sort of measured the ends of the Cross like cut,its not a Cross but resembles one.In other words the TWO sides of the hands are not even...
Its the only one I have heard so far of this Year that has something like that, the entire Memorial Building is Sideways.Even, just to be sure,I double checked it with a NORMAL Penny. In Normal Pennys the Memorial Building's Bottom Ends sides are touching the C E N T Part (here) they are not! Again,I llook foward to your Advise.. (if) its is what it is..I will still need a whole lot of advise in auctioning it.God Bless!

Beck,
Kissimmee FL
PS: I'm sending in the Back Pic via another mail since I can attach only one pic here.

Answer
Hi Mirza,

Thank you for the pictures.

This is definitely something that was done to the penny after it left the mint.  Not sure why, but somebody took a normal penny and cut that cross into it.

From your picture I think I can see the zinc core of the penny.  With the thin outer copper coating, this would confirm that it was a normal penny at one time, and somebody altered it.

It may be worth a dollar or two as a novelty item, but that's about it.
