Coin and Paper Money Collecting/2009 Sacagewa dollar

Question
I'm no coin collector so let me apologize if I am wasting your time.  I got 20 Sacagewa coins from my local bank for stocking stuffers for the kids. One in particular stood out which was a 2009 Sacagewa...I was able to determine this because the back shows her planting corn. This particular one has an extremely "shiny" look compared to other Sacagewa dollars. Also, I looked at it under a magnifying glass...it appears that there might be some markings on the edge. If there are markings on the edge then they are very, very faint.  There certainly isn't anything legible as far as I can see.  What's so strange is that if the sides are worn so badly that they can't be read, then why does the front and back of the coin appear to be so "shiny" and "new" looking?  I've heard something about 2009 and a "weak edge".  I'm sorry to bother you, but I am not aware of any other way to find out about this coin.  Thank you very much and happy holidays!

Thank you,
Kevin B.

Answer
Kevin:

Thanks for the question.

I found a site showing your dollars and one with mention of the error. 2009 was the first year to have the date, mintmark and "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on the edge. The no edge lettering example sold for just under $10K. The second article suggested looking for weak edge coins, as one had been found and authenticated.

The possible reason the front and back look shinny and the edge dull would be a filled retaining collar (dirt, grime, grease) that puts the edge lettering and date on the coin.

If you live close to a local shop, they should offer an opinion as to it's value and if it is authentic at no charge. Always try and get at least two opinions and try and deal with PNG dealers if possible. Here's a link to find one in your area: http://www.pngdealers.com/dealersearch.php

Your coin should be looked at by an error expert. My recommendation on who to contact:
