Question
16 TO 1
16 TO 1
WHATS IS THIS I HAVE AND WHAT IS THE VALUE

Answer
Anthony,

You have a piece of what's known as Bryan Money.  These were tokens and medals issued during the 1896 and 1900 presidential campaigns, that centered around the controversy of William Jennings Bryan's platform advocating the "free coinage of silver to gold at a 16 to 1 ratio".

I assume the other side has Miss Liberty on it, with BRYANS MONEY above, and is dated 1896.  This would put it in the Schornstein catalog as something from number 817 to 824.  Depending on exactly which one it is, it would be ranked anywhere from common to very rare.  If I knew its diameter and weight (in grams), I may be able to narrow that down.

Value will be somewhere between $50 and $400, depending on exactly which variety you have.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
