Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Double mm 1939D 2 mark

Question
I have a 1939D 2 mark nazi coin. The mint mark is clearly doubled. This is not a case of machine doubling which I know is common on these coins. My question is: Is this coin worth sending to a professional coin grading service? I would grade at EF or better. I would like to sell it but I cannot find any reference to this particular error after extensive searching.

Answer
Hi Michael,
Double dies are also fairly common on these coins, especially the D/Munich mint and A/Berlin mint coins. Sending it to NGC or PCGS would cost you more than the coin is expected to sell for at auction. A nice mint state coin would be worth it, though there is an additional fee for error attribution.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
