Question
I have several of these coins, Republique francaise 5 francs,Louis philippic Roi DES Francaise, most 1800s. How can I figure out the value.

Answer
Hi Ron,
A good starting point would be to take note of the exact year and the mint mark on each coin. The mint mark will be a capital letter, some include A, B, a double B, D, I, T, L, W and a few more. Depending on which type you have, the mint mark will be either to the left of the date, or at the bottom right beneath the date and wreath (near the rim).
If there are some better ones, the next step is to figure out the condition. A clear picture will be necessary for that and you can upload one on this site or e-mail me multiple pictures.
Let's start with the dates and mint marks.

Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
